Garung Thak, Arunachal Pradesh

The organization is based in a valley of Shergaon, West Kameng district, Arunachal Pradesh, India. Coming together of young like minded tribal people from various fields and with vision to work for sustainable village development gave birth to this organization on 14th October, 2014.

The organization believes in the saying that “if child cannot come to education, education must go to child”. Thus the organization planned to open a community library for the village children.

Now, the Library has gathered sufficient books from individuals and other helpful organizations. The NGO plans to establish small library units in every school in the village, specially targeting the  Government run schools. The next plan would be to motivate parents to bring their children to the library. It is also planned to motivate people in other nearby villages to open similar community libraries. The NGO has already mentored and helped in forming an NGO called Zagang Depga in neighboring village of Jigaon on similar lines.

The NGO wishes to work on the indigenous language preservation of the tribal community in coming days. The Sherdukpen dialect is one of the vulnerable languages with very small native speakers about 4000. Documentation of cultural festivals, rituals and working towards supplementing rural livelihood will help continue this initiative. The NGO, with permission of Shergaon Village Council is setting up a entho-medicinal plants garden near a monastery.
