Rain knows
which windows leak,
which children are waiting
to jump into puddles,
which commuters forgot umbrellas,
which trees have been thirsty
for weeks.
Rain knows
how cities smell
before they become wet,
how rooftops sound
when thousands of drops
arrive together,
how one cup of chai
can become warmer
because the sky is grey.
It knows the exact moment
a paper boat becomes brave,
and the exact moment
it becomes paper again.
Rain never asks
whether we were ready.
It simply arrives,
turning ordinary roads
into mirrors
and reminding us
that even the sky
sometimes needs
to let go.
